Tod – Founder

Introducing The Program and Foundation

Tod, founder of First in Prison Incorporated, began his journey in 2015 while incarcerated on a yard with little to no self-help resources. He helped create a one-year substance abuse program and wrote a unique curriculum to support personal transformation. After his release in 2020, Tod returned to prisons with a mission: to bring this program to those still inside. Now, First in Prison is working to expand into all 35 California prisons, with community support needed to reach thousands of inmates ready for change.

A Path to Healing and Transformation

12 steps to recovery

The 12 Steps have long been a proven framework for personal growth and recovery. At First in Prison Inc., these steps serve as the foundation of our program, guiding participants through a structured process of self-examination, accountability, and healing. By working through each step, individuals uncover past wounds, confront harmful behaviors, and develop the tools needed for lasting change. This journey isn’t just about overcoming addiction—it’s about breaking destructive cycles, building resilience, and fostering a life of integrity and purpose. Whether someone is struggling with substance abuse, trauma, or other challenges, the 12 Steps offer a path forward—one built on honesty, community, and personal transformation.

About Us

At First in Prison Inc., we believe in the power of transformation through recovery, self-reflection, and community support. Founded by inmates, for inmates, our program is rooted in the twelve steps of anonymous programs, along with essential recovery modules addressing trauma, anger, guilt, and personal growth.

Our mission is to help incarcerated individuals heal from their past wounds, break destructive cycles, and build a foundation for a more caring and productive future. We recognize that unresolved pain leads to harm, and by guiding participants through deep self-exploration, we empower them to reclaim their lives.

What began in 2016 as a small self-help group inside Chino Prison has grown into a movement—one that has changed not only individual lives but entire prison communities. Our structured curriculum, developed through lived experience and dedication, has proven effective in reducing disciplinary issues and fostering a culture of recovery and accountability.

As we continue to expand, our goal is to bring First in Prison Inc. to prisons across California and beyond, offering hope and healing to those seeking real change. We welcome feedback, collaboration, and support from those who share our vision of restoring dignity and purpose through recovery.

If you or someone you know is incarcerated and could benefit from First in Prison Inc., we encourage you to connect with us. Together, we stand for recovery, transformation, and a future built on strength and redemption.
